Cannabidiol Oil: The Possible Side Effects Before You Use It

With the legalization of Cannabis product in most of the countries, the use of CBD oil has increased significantly. It has not only helped people in serious diseases but also other conditions like stress, depression, and trauma.

There are many types of research that proves why CBD oil can be extensively used without any concern. The reason is its almost negligible content of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC and presence in pure CBD.

While there are various health benefits associated with it, CBD oil also had certain possible side effects that might get triggered with use. Although, no such dangerous or fatal side effects have been noted until now.

To make you understand it clearly, here, I have listed some possible side effects that might get triggered with the use of CBD oil.

Hypotension

Some studies reveal that if CBD oil is used in high dosage, it can cause a minor drop in your blood pressure. This minor drop in blood pressure can cause lightheadedness which might not be very comfortable for some people.

Thus, to avoid such symptoms, you should not start CBD oil if you are on blood pressure lowering medications. You should also avoid CBD oil if you are diagnosed with Hypotension i.e., Low Blood Pressure.

However, if you still want to use CBD oil for your condition, it is better to consult your doctor to understand the right way and dosage to avoid any complications.

Dry Mouth

When you consume CBD oil and it enters into your body, the endocannabinoid system of your body decreases the secretion of saliva. The body’s endocannabinoid system helps in the function of the brain, immune tissues, and endocrine. CBD oil is beneficial for all three of them.

With a decrease in the secretion of saliva, you might feel thirsty in small intervals. However, it is easy to get rid of it by keeping yourself hydrated. Hydrate yourself as much as you can. Drinking plenty of water will balance the saliva deficiency. Also, staying hydrated has many other benefits for your body.

Drowsiness

The effect of CBD varies from individual to individual. Some of them might feel extremely energetic and charged up. While for others, it might be just the opposite. They might not feel very energetic. It can be dull and drowsy for some.

Hence, people experiencing such side effects should not use CBD oil while driving or using heavy machinery. As it can be dangerous for both the individual and the people around them. It is also better to take medical guidance and adjust the dosage of CBD oil if the reason for drowsiness is the improper dosage.

Lightheadedness

As mentioned above, you can feel lightheaded after consuming CBD oil as it might decrease your blood pressure levels slightly on higher doses. This can be uncomfortable for some people.

Thus, those who are on blood pressure lowering medications or suffers from hypotension should avoid taking CBD oil or consult a doctor for the right dosage.

However, it can always be managed by consuming caffeine of some sort. You can try caffeinated drinks like tea or coffee to balance your body. This will help your body to regulate back to normal.

Tremors

Some studies show that consumption of CBD oil can cause an increase in tremors and muscle movements of the patient who suffers from Parkinson’s disease. But it can be quite confusing. As studies have shown that patients with Parkinson’s disease have been benefited by the use of CBD oil.

But Parkinson’s disease is not curable. So, don’t expect it will cure the disease.

Hence, more researches and studies need to be conducted to showcase CBD oil’s role in increased tremors in patients with Parkinson’s disease. If you suffer from Parkinson’s disease and want to consume CBD oil, it is better to do so under your doctor’s guidance.

Liver Inflammation

According to some research, it is noted that the use of CBD oil can increase the production of liver enzymes. This increase in the liver enzyme can cause liver damage or inflammation.

If you are suffering from a certain serious liver condition, do not start CBD oil without any medical guidance.

Lactating or Pregnant Mother

There is no such reliable information which suggests that CBD oil is safe for mothers who are breastfeeding or women who are pregnant. To avoid any harmful effect on you or your baby’s health, it is better to avoid using CBD oil if you are pregnant or lactating.

Diarrhoea

The most common side effect of every new drug is diarrhoea. It is the same in the case of CBD oil.  Diarrhoea is the body’s reaction to any new supplement or medication. CBD oil helps in different gastrointestinal diseases which is why diarrhoea as its side effects can be quite shocking.

But, diarrhoea is quite common and usually occurs in people who are taking CBD oil daily or frequently for any chronic inflammation.

Skin Problems

Although no such studies have shown skin problems on using CBD oil, it is always better to avoid using it if you have sensitive skin or if you are allergic to cannabis product. As it might react with your skin and causes possible side effects like itchiness, redness or warm sensation of the skin, etc.

If you still want to use CBD oil, you can ask your doctor about its correct usage. However, avoid applying it directly to a sensitive area.

Conclusion

CBD oil is a kind of natural oil produced from the extract of the plant Cannabis sativa. It has innumerable benefits for different conditions. It helps to keep your heart, brain, immune system, and stomach healthy as well as protect them from various complications.

However, there are certain possible side effects associated with its usage. People might experience lightheadedness due to hypotension which is mild and is not harmful but only uncomfortable.

They might also experience drowsiness and dry mouth which is caused by a decrease in the secretion of saliva by the endocannabinoid system of our body. People suffering from Parkinson’s disease may feel increase tremors and body movement. Although, more researches need to be conducted.

CBD oil might increase the secretion of liver enzymes and cause liver damage or inflammation. It might also cause diarrhoea which is the body’s reaction to any new drug or supplement. It is better to avoid CBD if you are lactating or if you have sensitive skin.

However, these side effects are mild and more researches need to be conducted to rule these out. Do not self-prescribe CBD oil. Always use CBD oil under medical guidance to avoid any side effects.
